Overview

Long Island Creek Site 1A is one headwater to the Long Island watershed. Additionally, this watershed drains to the Chattahoochee watershed. The site is a lush, green area with trees clustered in several groupings and shrubs growing near their base. Thus, the stream receives sunlight at various times during the day. The tree placement allows wind to penetrate the stream bed. St. Augustine grass grows across the lawn, over the wooden retaining wall, and along the stream bank and bed. The English Ivy used for erosion control grows prolifically over the grey granite stones, so much so that the stones are difficult to see. The nature of this stream is to receive rain water during storms and rainy periods; therefore, the water levels are not consistent. The inconsistent water levels hinder the survival of fish in the stream.
